Description
started off as a monochromatic color assignment for my design class, but kind of evolved into a two part series of paintings that look like they have nothing to do with each other. The only thing tying them together is the series of events that inspired them.
that aside...
this one is also based on a dream I had back in February. Those are four highly symbolic American Swallowtailed Kites--subconscious symbols that my conscious mind has yet to decipher. A memory....that I was reminded of in my current situation....which is what inspired the words on the birds.
"To live, to err, to fall, to triumph..." -from A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, by James Joyce
"...to recreate life out of life!"
part II is here: [link]
acrylics on canvas paper (oh how i hate textured paper...)

I love Portrait of the Artist...everyone in my class hated it because it "didn't make sense", but I loved it because of its brilliance and beauty.
I wonder if the kites dont have some sort of "good and evil conflict" symbolism because of their black and white colors. Like the good inside you is there, white as a dove, but somehow evil is trying to overcome you. Random...I know!
Great painting.
